Medicare inicia la cobertura de medicamentos para la obesidad: un avance histórico para los mayores en EE.UU.

Millones de estadounidenses mayores beneficiarios de Medicare se preparan para recibir una cobertura que hasta ahora no existía: la inclusión de medicamentos para la obesidad. A partir de este miércoles, los beneficiarios elegibles podrán acceder a los GLP-1, una clase de medicamentos que se utilizan para tratar la obesidad, con un copago de solo 50 dólares al mes. Esta medida representa un avance significativo en el acceso a tratamientos que anteriormente estaban fuera del alcance de muchos pacientes mayores de 65 años.

El programa de demostración Bridge de Medicare elude la prohibición existente que impedía la cobertura de estos medicamentos específicamente para la obesidad, permitiendo que más beneficiarios, incluidos aquellos con sobrepeso y condiciones como prediabetes o hipertensión no controlada, accedan a ellos.
